Mantan bassis The Smashing Pumpkins, D’arcy Wretkzy tampaknya mulai aktif bermusik lagi, kali ini ia memainkan doom/sludge metal bersama unit asal Michigan, Grave Next Door.

Menurut foto-foto di laman Facebook milik Grave Next Door, Wretzky tidak terlihat sama sekali. Namun, sedikit petunjuk memperlihatkan mural ikan lophiiformes (ikan pemancing) yang juga muncul di detik ke 03:18 dalam klip “Tonight, Tonight” dari Smashing Pumpkins.

Belum jelas juga apa peran Wretzky di Grave Next Door, sebagai personil, musisi tamu, personil tambahan atau peran belakang layar seperti manajer atau produser.

“Kemarin kami baru saja berlatih bersama mantan bassis Smashing Pumpkins, D’arcy Wretzky sebagia persiapan masuk ke studio rekaman di bulan Mei. Dia seorang musisi hebat!” tulis Grave Next Door di laman mereka.

Di awal 2018, saat The Smashing Pumpkins menyatakan akan kembali dengan formasi klasik era awal bersama James Iha (gitar) dan Jimmy Chamberlain (drum), Wretzky justru tidak ikut serta. Dia mengonfirmasi absensinya lewat sebuah pesan pendek.

“Saya minta maaf untuk semua penggemar Smashing Pumpkins yang sedang berbahagia mendengar kabar tur reuni formasi asli dalam beberapa waktu ke depan…

Saya tahu ini kabar yang sangat mengecewakan, buat saya juga tentunya, tapi reuni ini tidak akan mengikutsertakan saya… Kabar ini baru saya ketahui kemarin. Smashing Pumpkins memutuskan untuk merekrut bassis lain,” tulis Wretzky.

Walau sudah beberapa kali menyebar kabar soal reuni formasi klasik dan dikonfirmasi oleh tiga personil, Wretzky tidak pernah sekalipun ikut serta atau menyatakan terlibat.
