Penyanyi, penulis lagu, dan produser asal Singapura, Shye, akhirnya merilis single pertamanya di tahun 2024. Berjudul “can’t you see”, single baru Shye menceritakan tentang usaha untuk mengungkapkan rasa cinta kepada seseorang selain lewat kata-kata.

Musisi-musisi internasional seperti Rex Orange Country menjadi inspirasi Shye di lagu ini. Shye menjelaskan, “Untuk single pertamaku di tahun ini aku ingin membagikan sesuatu yang ringan dan santai. Aku waktu itu sedang merasa sedikit nostaljik terhadap tren musik dream-pop pada 2018 dan 2019. Hal itu kemudian menginspirasiku untuk membuat lagu ini yang terinspirasi musisi-musisi seperti boy pablo, Clairo, Dayglow and Rex Orange County”.

Mengenai arah musik dari single “can’t you see”, Shye mengatakan, “EP ‘9LIVES’ yang aku rilis Oktober lalu penuh dengan nuansa rock alternatif yang penuh distorsi. Hampir bertolak belakang dengan jenis musik yang aku buat saat aku pertama kali merilis musik yaitu lewat lagu-lagu bergenre dream pop dan aku seakan selalu kembali ke genre itu. Suara bell synth yang ringan di lagu ini adalah suara yang aku pakai di EP debutku ‘Augus7ine’.”
