“After 14 years as a band we have decided to call it a day. The decision has obviously been an incredibly difficult one, given that The Maccabees has been such a huge part of our lives until now. We are very proud to be able to go out on our own terms, at our creative peak and off the back of the best and biggest shows we have ever done. There havee not been fallings out and we are grateful to say that we are not leaving the group behind as a divided force. It has been a rare and absolutely incredible time that we all feel very lucky to have shared”.

Pernyataan barusan merupakan paragraf pembuka dari surat yang dirilis band indie rock asal Inggris The Maccabees, Senin (8/8). Melalui surat yang mereka rilis melalui Facebook dan Twitter tersebut, mereka resmi membubarkan diri. Tidak ada alasan jelas yang mereka cantumkan dalam surat tersebut. Hal yang pasti, mereka menjanjikan tur perpisahan juga tidak akan berhenti membuat musik.

Sejak terbentuk pada tahun 2002 hingga kini, grup yang pada formasi terakhirnya berisikan Orlando Weeks (vokal/gitar/keyboard), Hugo White (gitar), Felix White (gitar), Rupert Jarvis (bass), dan Sam Doyle (drum) ini telah merilis empat album. Album terbaru mereka Marks To Prove It, baru saja dirilis Juli 2015 lalu. Mereka pun sempat menjadi headline Latitude Festival, Juli tahun ini.
